Lake Conditions

Lake Conditions

The lake’s actual water level at full pond is 569.4 feet above mean sea level. Lake levels are reported with a normal full pond elevation of 100 feet. Lake Wylie’s target level is 97 feet, with a minimum level of 93 feet.

Duke Energy has the primary responsibility for managing reservoirs and lake levels of the Catawba-Wateree River. Visit Duke Energy’s website for:

Lake Wylie by the Numbers

  • Oldest of 7 man-made lakes in the Catawba River system
  • 32 miles long from the Mountain Island Dam in the north to the Wylie Dam in the south
  • 32 days for water to flow through the lake and back into the Catawba River
  • One-third of the water in the lake flows from the South Fork River
  • Has the largest individual water shed on the Catawba River
  • 325 miles of shoreline bordering Gaston County & Mecklenburg County in North Carolina and York County in South Carolina
  • 37.2 miles of SC creeks flow into the lake
  • 13,443 acres of surface water
  • Source of drinking water for the cities of Belmont, NC and Rock Hill, SC
  • Maximum depth: 94 feet
  • Average Depth: 23 feet
  • 6 public access areas with boat launch ramps
